I'm delighted about the ISF Global CXO Summit in Montego Bay, Jamaica, June 5-7, 2024. Congratulations to Dr. Mahesh Tangutooru, Co-Founder and Director of ISF, for choosing Jamaica as the summit's location. Commendations to Dr. Guna Muppuri, Founder, President & CEO of Bioprist, for bridging stakeholders from his home country with his adopted one for this event. While abundant information on Jamaica's investment environment exists, here's a brief summary for summit participants. Jamaica, the largest English-speaking Island in the Caribbean and third largest English-speaking nation in the Western Hemisphere, maintains a stable democratic tradition with two major political parties, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the Peoples National Party (PNP), alternating in power. Kingston, Jamaica's capital, boasts global connectivity and is a thriving center for commerce and culture. Its Kingston Harbour, among the world's largest, handles significant maritime traffic, positioning Jamaica as a key multi-modal logistics hub. Montego Bay, the island's second city, excels in tourism and serves as a hub for technology and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). Jamaica facilitates the exchange of knowledge and commerce, making it a pivotal player in global connectivity. Jamaica's stable political environment has driven its economic growth, with GDP exceeding USD 17 billion and per capita GDP reaching USD 7,000. The nation experienced 10 consecutive quarters of growth and swiftly rebounded from the COVID-19 pandemic. Strong macroeconomic fundamentals, including sustained growth, controlled inflation, a surplus in the current account, low unemployment, and declining debt-to-GDP ratio, make Jamaica increasingly appealing to investors. The service sector leads Jamaica's GDP (over 70%), followed by manufacturing (8%), Other industrial activities (13%), and agriculture (9%). Key sectors driving growth include tourism, agriculture, transport/logistics, manufacturing, global digital services, energy, mining, and creative industries. The Jamaica Stock Exchange ranks as the top-performing globally (Bloomberg 2015 and 2018). Recognized as a competitive investment destination in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region, Jamaica ranks 71st out of 190 economies in the Doing Business Report 2020 and 4th in the Ease of Doing Business Index in the wider LAC region, offering a favorable opportunity for investors.
